On the Sculpture Terrace, we showed the majestic, abstract sculpture by Eduardo Chillida, called Saludo a los Pajaros II (Salute to the Birds II). Forged in corten steel, this late work appears almost weightless, such was the Spanish-Basque artist’s mastery of material, form and scale.
Chillida, who was an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors, made this work in 2000, two years before his death, aged 78.
The sculpture was a generous loan from the Estate of Eduardo Chillida with thanks to Hauser and Wirth.
