Biography
Norwegian sculptor Julia Vance works between Oslo and Tuscany. Trained in calligraphy, thus her sculptures combine language with tactile volume. The ‘sculpturally philosophical words’ intend to appeal to the mind and provide clean form for the eye. Her larger pieces in stone and metal have been shown in front of the Norwegian Parliament, Oslo Central Station and recently in Holland Park, London. Having exhibited throughout Europe and in the Far East she also is advisor and jury for the Central Bank of Norway for its new paper money and coins. In her latest commission for Hønefoss Church in Norway, installed December 2017, Vance abstracted her calligraphic lines to create a sculptural new altar, font and pulpit - carved in white Italian Statuary Marble. Currently she is working on comissions for new public buildings in Norway.
