My approach to my work could be described as ‘automatic’. I have a rough idea for a work and let it happen. I see what I can make the stone do, listening and feeling my way to the creation which exists in the back of my mind. Giving a heavy and solid thing my aesthetic without disturbing its inherent beauty, nature and energy.
Mostly I just use whatever stone I have to hand and make by sometimes removing weight and sometimes adding. Inspiration comes from the material itself and subconscious memories of things I have seen and imagined.
I love discovering and sourcing my material and it has taken me to people and places I would not otherwise have found or thought of visiting. I hope to give the viewer or discoverer of my work the same sense of voyage, process and emotion I experienced in its creation.
