Kensington & Chelsea Art Week
Kensington + Chelsea Art Week was founded in 2018 with a public consultation by a group of volunteering arts industry professionals. We are an independent, not-for-profit cultural festival and a placemaking organisation.
ART WEEK and the summer-long temporary ART TRAIL celebrate the rich heritage of the borough by opening doors to local creative spaces along with leading organisations in the area to facilitate further public engagement in the local culture. Over 1 million visitors engage with ART TRAIL weekly. The festival activities are a collective endeavour, delivered every year thanks to our advisory board and participating organisations, from small practices to major cultural institutions.
Benson Sedgwick Engineering
Benson Sedgwick Engineering offers an exciting, informal residency to member/s of the Gilbert Bayes Award to enable the creation of a new artwork. The residency includes bench space as well as access to staff, materials and new metalworking skills.
Milwyn Foundry
Milwyn Foundry teamed up with the Society to offer a student graduating from the Royal Academy Schools the opportunity to win the Royal Society of Sculptors Bronze Award. The prize was a three to six month residency at the fine art foundry, based at the time in Leatherhead, along with up to £3,000 for materials. The works created were later exhibited at Dora House. Milwyn Foundry are also collaborating on the #10gramchallenge, an ongoing project that started in 2021 by asking members to produce a piece of sculpture from a 10g piece of supplied wax to be direct cast into bronze. In 2024 and in support of Creating a Home for Sculptors, Milwyn supported us once again when we asked 40 leading artists to make their own creations. Participating artists included Antony Gormley RA, Cathie Pilkington RA, Conrad Shawcross RA, Grayson Perry RA, Laura Ford PRSS, Michael Craig-Martin RA, Peter Randall-Page RA FRSS, Polly Morgan MRSS, Rana Begum RA, Richard Deacon RA, Richard Wilson RA, and Sokari Douglas Camp CBE FRSS and many more.
Art UK Sculpture Project
The Art UK Sculpture Project is transforming the way people access and learn about their sculpture heritage, at the same time as enabling new audiences to share knowledge, exchange opinions and visit objects both in person and online. The project is creating a comprehensive record of the UK's publicly owned sculptures - many of which are hidden away without records, images or online access. The Royal Society of Sculptors is a key partner along with BBC, Public Monuments and Sculpture Association, Royal Photographic Society, Factum Foundation, VocalEyes and Culture Street.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is home to the UK's tallest sculpture, the ArcelorMittal Orbit, designed by Anish Kapoor. The Society has teamed up with the park to showcase the winner of our biennial First Plinth Award. The winning work will show on our sculpture terrace during the spring, before moving to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the summer months. As part of this collaboration, we are working with schools in the area, running creative workshops for pupils.
Frieze Sculpture Park
Frieze Sculpture Park is London's largest display of outdoor artwork, featuring artists from around the world. Situated in Regent's Park, everyone is welcome to explore the sculptures. The Royal Society of Sculptors works with Frieze to enhance engagement with the exhibition. In 2018 the Society hosted special Family Days to bring the exhibition to life for younger visitors.
Grizedale Forest
Grizedale Forest - we are delighted to have partnered with Grizedale to offer our members and early career sculptors the opportunity to partner through an annual six week residency based in the forest.
University of Gloucestershire
We have partnered with the University of Gloucestershire to conduct the Sculptors as Entrepreneurs project. We are investigating how sculptors identify with and accommodate different elements of their work, including being entrepreneurs. The aim is to increase our understanding of the tensions sculptors encounter and the strategies that can successfully be used to resolve them. A series of interventions to support the education and continuing professional development of sculptors will be developed to help them be more successful. The project is typical of the University of Gloucestershire’s work which aims to have impact for society through learning.
