Some of my memories at Dora House (by Johannes Von Stumm PPRSS)
My first time at Dora House meeting the former President Philomena Davidson in the humid offices in the cellar.
The exhibition of Helaine Blumenfeld’s, Peter Newsome’s and my work in the studio with a completely renovated lighting system.
X-mas parties with dance cards.
Anthony Caro’s exhibition of his strong figurative work.
Climbing into the light well and filling bag after bag with soil, moss and debris and removing them.
The price giving to the best work of a young student exhibition with their excellent and inventive approach to sculpture.
The fight in the Nineties at AGM’s and EGM’s not to sell Dora House despite the dire need for money.
The freezing team in an unheated office.
My unsuccessful attempts at Dora House to convince officers and leading members of the value of Sculpture Network (Europe).
The unbelievable joy passing Dora House now seeing it renovated thanks to Caroline Worthington, the Council and so many other knowledgeable and skilled people

Ahead of the Year of the Home in 2026 when we celebrate the Society's 50 years at Dora House, we asked members to share with us their personal memories of Dora House. We will be sharing them throughout 2026 as part of a programme of this milestone, marked also by the delivery of our project Creating a Home for Sculptors. If you have a memory you would like to share, you can still do so via this link.
