The shape of Arctic sea-ice at the end of the summer season cut from classical LPs featuring music inspired by the oceans and seas. One for each of the years since The Paris Agreement in 2015.
The Arctic sea-ice is a frozen reef which creates a home for unique species on the surface of the ocean and beneath the floating ice, a habitat severely threatened by climate change. I made scaled drawings mapping the shape of the minimum extent, occurring on the 21st September annually, of Arctic sea-ice for the last ten years since The Paris Agreement was signed in 2015. Classical long player records capture a moment in time documenting the changing shape of this habitat and ancient sea-ice mass. Each record is chosen because it has music inspired by the seas and passages across oceans pressed into the vinyl. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the world’s third most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer.
