Biography

VINCENT GRAY is a figurative sculptor specialising in historical figures. Represented in England, Scotland and Sweden, his home city of Chichester boasts several high profile works including John Keats, Leonard Bernstein, Maurice Patten and the Nelson and Murray group. For this contribution to the street scene, in 2021, he received a Civic Medal from Chichester City Council. In 2020 Gray was one of four sculptors selected by RMA Sandhurst to design a sculpture for the Academy grounds of HRH Queen Elisabeth II. Gray was runner up with his design. Over 3 decades he has produced high profile works for public spaces and private settings. Abbeyfield Sheltered Housing boasts twin sculptures for their two sites in Chichester titled ‘Dedication’ and Lapwing Court proudly displays the ‘Lawing Sculpture’ to the front of their premises in Selsey. The Lucy and Beckie Memorial unveiled by The Duchess of Richmond can be seen in Fishbourne Park. Gray has also produced portraits of numerous notable people including Sydney Stern 1st Baron Wandsworth, JF Kennedy, Adventurer, Ocean Rower and Author John Ridgway, Sir Chay Blyth and astronomer Sir Patrick Moore. His most recent work, The West Africa Squadron Memorial, a life-size work in bronze, comprising a three figure composition which tells the story of the UKs role in ending slavery. As an extension to his practice Vincent Gray Studios provides a service to industry as Process Consultant in the manufacture of sculpture. Clients include Yinka Shonibare CBE RA. Gray was elected member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2000. He is currently working on a memorial sculpture to Percy Bysshe Shelley for Horsham. Latest: Following the death of Dame Patricia Routledge in October 2025 the master cast of John Keats was gifted to St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Bosham, Chichester where she was a patron.
