Description
Join Richard Hudson MRSS for an artist in conversation event on Wednesday 8 July at 6.30pm via Zoom. Richard will be in conversation, as part of the Sculpture Terrace series, with Isabel de Vasconcellos independent curator and writer.
My sculpture begins with an idea that surfaces in my imagination unannounced and sometimes uninvited. I start modelling the plasteline, clay, plaster or other materials to give this kernel shape and form, then at this point the final work manifests itself and materializes in my hands.
This summer we have been delighted to have Richard Hudson MRSS' Tear on the Sculpture Terrace. Inspired by nature, Tear is a reminder of the preciousness of water and the balance it sustains in our world. The polished mirrored steel surface invites viewers to reflect on this theme.
Richard's work is also on show at The Roof Gardens as part of Sculpture Above Ground a new exhibition curated by Aurore Ankarcrona Hennessey. Bringing together artists from the Royal Society of Sculptors, Sculpture Above Ground unfolds across two distinct London sites: the Woodland Gardens at The Roof Gardens, and the terrace at Dora House, the Royal Society of Sculptors’ historic home in South Kensington. Installed across contrasting architectural and social settings, the exhibition considers how sculpture is encountered differently in spaces of leisure, display, and contemplation.
