Simul is a fiber art installation that explores the politics of textiles as a space of memory, transmission, and resistance.
The work takes shape through small pieces of fabric collected and preserved by women belonging to different generations and contexts: fragments of domestic everyday life, carrying profound historical, social, and cultural significance. These pieces of fabric were sewn together by women involved in social groups and empowerment initiatives, transforming the act of sewing into a shared gesture of care, sisterhood, and self-affirmation.
The elements that make up the installation become metaphors for individual and collective journeys that intertwine and sustain one another, reaching upward together. Yet the forms never reach the ceiling: they remain intentionally non-load-bearing, suspended in a tension between aspiration and limitation. It is precisely within this condition that the conceptual core of the work lies, reflecting on the possibilities of emancipation and on the limitations that continue to shape women’s experiences today.
Simul was created to celebrate a resilient collective presence, and was brought into being through a resilient collective presence that found strength in connection, mutual support, and the continuity of the gesture.
