Tasara Quartet by Gary Power MRSS

These sculptures are made of traditional Indian cooking pots that are still commonly used in Indian homes today. The work was made while attending an artist residency in Kerala, India.

The sculpture honours Indian culinary skills and commemorates the often ritualised care and attention devoting to cooking, traditionally carried out by women in the household.

The form of the sculptures references temple architecture and the vibrant colour is emphasised to represent how in India it is welcomed as a gift to empower and release spiritual energy.

About the artist, Gary Power MRSS:

I am a mixed media sculptor particularly interested in the relationship between two and three dimensions; emotional and psychological space; synthesizing expression with ideas: haptic, intuitive, and embodied ways of making and thinking; Art in Architecture; and forms of Public commemoration and personal memory.
