The Dark Night of the Soul

A Contemporary Exploration of Existential Crisis and Inner Transformation

Taking inspiration from the poem’s themes of despair, resilience, and rebirth, The Dark Night

of the Soul features work from six artists, including Tere Recarens (Spain), J Seo (Korea),

Kate Davis (UK), Uta Kögelsberger (Germany/ UK), Celia Hempon (UK) and

Esmeralda Conde Ruiz (Spain). The exhibition brings together painting, sculpture,

photography, collage, and site-specific installations, where each artist engages with the

poem’s themes in their own way, interpreting its meaning through a deeply personal yet

universally resonant lens. Together, they explore their own or others ‘dark nights’,

transforming individual struggles into shared reflections on doubt, resilience, and renewal.
