'Ode to the visceral' is still on display at the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution (AGBI) until 8 September.
The AGBI supports professional fine artists unable to work due to injury or illness through grants. Their recent exhibition, “Bodies” explores our ever-changing bodies, the ways we expect them to carry us through life, and what happens when they don’t behave as we think they should. It’s been a privilege to be part of this group show that reflects on health, healing and support for artists since all these themes are central to the AGBI’s mission.
My wall tableau is inspired by votive organs - objects offered in hope, gratitude and healing. As an extension of the 'Bodies' exhibition, I’m making the individual works available to purchase at studio prices through my studio. I like the thought that, as these pieces leave the larger whole, they begin new lives in different homes. From every sale, I will donate 10% to the AGBI, to go towards artists experiencing health issues.
