Our Sculptors Exhibitions
Tessa's latest project is a multi-media experience, bringing together art and science to evoke the threat of global extinction and the possibility of inter-species communication between humans and nature.
The centrepiece, three large sperm whales suspended, as if sleeping, from the timber beams of the vast tithe barn at Messums Wiltshire, features ghost netting, fabric, natural materials and lighting to create a powerful and poignant sculpture. The gallery itself gives greater resonance to the subjects, its great arched wooden beams suggesting an upturned whaling boat of the kind that hunted these noble creatures to near extinction.
The work will also feature a sound installation, taking us deeper into the world of the whales, where research and AI has now brought mankind to the very brink of decoding and understanding the language of another species. The vibrating sound waves and communications between whale and artist are captured in visual form, their shapes creating vast beautiful silk patterned banners hanging from the ceiling creating an underwater world of veils between the viewer and sculpted whales.
