Not My Voice, Not My Hair is an exhibition of sculptural works that are material-led investigations of the experience of inhabiting an aging female body. Working with objects, materials and images sourced at flea markets and second-hand shops from across Europe, Paula Chambers alters, adapts, disrupts and subverts these objects through hand crafting processes often aligned with the skills of feminine domesticity. The works exhibited reflect the female body in scale, form, psychic tone, and through the contextual resonance of objects. Works such as Heart and Soul, Bulge, and Vanishing materialise a physical and psychological embodied femininity as transient and ambivalent, specifically as lived through the lens of a feminist sensibility.
Exhibition open: 25th October – 17th November 2024
