On 9 May, Hauser & Wirth launched Homegrown, a new platform dedicated to the sale of artworks by the gallery’s staff, immediate family members and freelancers, celebrating the creative talents of its worldwide team. This bi-weekly, online showcase will feature works made by artists across all of the regions where Hauser & Wirth has locations, representing almost every internal department. Gathered via an open call, the artworks comprise a range of media including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and video works.
Manuela Wirth, Co-president of Hauser & Wirth: ‘As is the case with so many galleries and arts institutions around the world, many of our staff members are also practicing artists. With this project we are thrilled to be able to celebrate the artists within our worldwide Hauser & Wirth family. With so much talent in our own backyard, we felt it was important to create a platform where their creativity can be appreciated by a much larger audience.'
Homegrown will be presented as a series of releases by 12 artists occurring every two weeks, from 9 May to 18 August, and will feature artworks ranging in price from 100 – 20,000 USD. Proceeds of the sale of art on the Homegrown platform will go directly to the participating artists, with 10% of gross profits going to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization as part of #artforbetter, Hauser & Wirth’s ongoing global philanthropic and charitable initiative. The series will highlight artists from Sarasota, Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, Bruton, London and Zurich.
