Sandy Layton MRSS

Ideas come alive in my work through an experimentation of materials and processes. My work is collaged together from disparate elements in high fired clay and other materials, adopting innovative approaches to traditional processes. 

My current work references industrial materials, twisting and bending them, breaking away from their original  functions. Contrasting with the industrial elements are forms which capture a moment of movement and fluidity. The forms and texture of found materials hints at their previous life and function. In each case, it as though some unknown force liberates the forms from their original purpose, reinterprets them and gives them a new identity.

The sculptures have the characteristic of uncanny objects, exhibiting a narrative that is familiar but elusive.
