Biography

Ekholm's works originate from an ongoing fascination with the body, healing and the cultural production of fears and desire for survival. Inherent in the work is the interplay between the body, material and the performative. An absurd healing trend often leads his research to ancient beliefs of healing, aesthetics of a trendy gym interior or performative acts from the everyday.

Using ready-made, casting and fabrication, Ekholm compose materials to evoke a sense of the body, movements and the performative while exploring materials and colour. His sculptural compositions convey the humorous absurdity of buying into projected ideals of fitness and healing trends, what he calls “commodity of survival”.

Roberto Ekholm (b. Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain brought up in Gothenburg, Sweden 1976) He studied Dance at Laban Centre and Visual Arts at Goldsmiths College.  He is an artist and curator at EKCO London and MOCA London.
