Biography

Paula Castillo is a New Mexico-based sculptor whose practice spans intimate objects, installations, and large-scale public works. Rooted in the cultural and physical landscapes of the American Southwest, her work explores mestizaje, migration, memory, ecology, and engineered landscapes. Working primarily in metal, she combines industrial fabrication with hand-formed processes, repetition, light, and site to create sculptures that move between structure and symbol, object and environment. Her work has been exhibited and commissioned nationally and internationally, with projects ranging from museum installations and participatory ecological works to monumental civic sculpture. Across these scales, she is interested in how sculpture can hold multiple histories at once while remaining open to movement, interpretation, and lived experience.

Denver Trilogy documents Glyph, Equis, and Trestle, three monumental sculptures on the Denver Art Museum campus. The video follows the works through changing viewpoints, light, movement, and architectural context, revealing how each engages ideas of mestizaje, migration, cultural memory, and civic space.
