Biography

Okay Ikenegbu is a monumental sculptor, art historian, curator and academic working primarily with concrete, metal and wood. His work investigates monumentality, public memory, and postcolonial civic identity through large-scale interventions in public space. He creates materially ambitious sculptures that operate as both symbolic form and civic presence, shaping how histories are constructed and experienced within contemporary urban environments.

Alongside his sculptural practice, he has a significant record in research, teaching, and curatorial leadership, contributing to international discourse in contemporary art and material culture. He holds a PhD in Art History, MFA in Sculpture, and BA in Fine and Applied Arts. His work engages the relationship between material, space, and cultural memory, with a focus on the evolving role of sculpture within public and institutional contexts.
