Biography
My sculptural practice at the intersection of art and science explores DNA, genetics, evolution, and environmental adaptation through material techniques that embody these biological processes. Working across physical and digital media to create immersive installations, I integrate the physical environment into the artworks, whether they are static physical sculptures, in combination with digitally animated forms, or generative interactive augmented and virtual realities. I work without material constraints, selecting and developing techniques that mirror the scientific adaptive mechanisms I explore: from polymer-like material behaviors that echo DNA's chain structures to responsive digital environments that visualise genetic and evolutionary processes that happen over millions of years at speeds comprehensible to human intuition.
My multimedia, non-materially constrained, interdisciplinary work in art and science extends the formal and conceptual vocabulary of sculpture, creating new ways for audiences to engage with scientific and biological processes, evoking curiosity and wonder about the mechanisms of life. It also examines conventional scientific visualisation techniques and the scientific method itself, opening space for art as an active voice within the discipline.
I'm co-founder of Phenotypica, an art and science initiative under which I work with Ben Murray, a software engineer with a background in medical imaging and genomics. I also collaborate with other scientists and scientific institutions. I’ve received commissions from National Gallery X programme at the National Gallery, UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, Wellcome Trust, and I’ve also collaborated with institutions such as the Tate Exchange at Tate Modern, the Royal Society and The Francis Crick Institute.
Originally from Valencia (Spain), I'm based in London.
