Biography

HEX was born in 1964 in Munich/Germany. He studied Art History at the LMU but also is a trained and certified welder. To execute even large scale sculptures himself is very important to him, because he wants to use steel beyond its limits as industrial material. This becomes evident in his recent “Asteroid Series” were welded stainless steel is free formed in three dimensions without the restrictions of industrial producibility. His often smooth forms show that he tries to use steel like a natural material. The mirror finished surfaces of some stainless sculptures connect them to the light. All of his works are made for indoor use as well as for outdoors, depending only on the size which ranges between 30cm and 8m.

In March 2020, the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, his largest sculpture yet has been installed at the Battle of Britain Memorial, Kent. In a spirit of reconcilliation HEX created "DOWN.TWO.EARTH." which shows a downed Junkers JU 87 in original size. This sculpture is the only 1:1 full metal replica of a STUKA divebomber worldwide.
