Biography
Matt Smith has had several solo shows (Pitt Rivers Museum, 2020, Fitzwilliam Museum 2018, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery 2011, Aspex Gallery 2010, Brighton Museum, 2022), has shown internationally and regularly produces site-specific work for historic houses, including Kensington Palace and the National Trust.
His work often addresses marginalised positions and viewpoints and examines how museums, galleries and cultural organisations select the histories they discuss.
His work is included in the collections of the V&A, the Walker Art Gallery, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and National Museums of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Norway. In 2020 he was award the Brookfield Prize and in 2018 received Best Object in Show at Collect by Ekow Eshun.
