Biography
Lizzie Hughes work in precious metals, wood and cellophane stems from a residency in a historic mining town in Australia. The work includes a gold net held aloft by silver forks; fragile frameworks supporting nothing more than voids and structures that suggest archaic tools or vernacular fencing.
Previously she has structured large quantities of data in order to remotely explore distant landscapes and briefly enter the private worlds of others. She has made an audio portrait of The Empire State Building by telephoning workers on each of its eighty floors; a map showing the outlines of over thirty-nine thousand Las Vegas swimming pool and 4,007 Horizons a video that transforms generic snapshots into a dazzling journey around the globe.
After a Foundation at Coleg Menai, North Wales, she studied at The Slade School of Fine Art. Residencies include: The National Memorial Arboretum; The William Morris Gallery and Murray’s Cottage, Australia.
