Biography
Laura Hills is a London-based artist working across installation, sculpture and layered material processes. Her practice explores materiality through sewing patterns, waxed paper, thread, cast wax and framing structures, with an interest in construction, spatial perception and experience. Her work considers the relationship between surface and internal and external space, shifting with changes in light and positioning. Often ambiguous in their reading, the works invite viewers to slow down and look closely.
Hills graduated with an MA Fine Art (Distinction) at UCA Canterbury in 2023, having returned to her art practice eight years ago. Inclusion in recent exhibitions includes Epigeal at Unit 2 Gallery, St Leonards, Sculpture in the Home at the Royal Society of Sculptors, Apparatus 1 and 2 at Arthub and Transformation Paper at Haus De Papiers Gallery, Berlin. Her work has also been exhibited at Dora House and Arthouse Wakefield, alongside group exhibitions and collaborative projects around the UK.
She has also participated in an AA2A Residency at York St John University (2023–24) and received the Gilbert Bayes Award from the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2024.
