Biography

Artist Karen Tang works with sculpture and art-science methods, exhibiting widely in galleries and public spaces. Tang completed MFA Sculpture with Distinction at The Slade School of Fine Art and was awarded The Duveen Travel Scholarship. She is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at UAL and a PhD candidate with the Living Systems Lab Research Group at CSM. Tang’s research investigates the potential of cyanobacteria (photosynthesising microorganisms) for sculptural practice, and how sculpture can expand perceptions of cyanobacteria.

Tang’s sculptures have been commissioned by The Economist and The Contemporary Art Society, The National Trust, VITRINE, South London Gallery, Ealing Council, private collections, and presented at settings including Sculpture in the City, l’étrangère, Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, Bloomberg Space, Jerwood Space, Ambika P3, MAMA Rotterdam, Guest Projects, The Collection Lincoln and The Royal Society of Sculptors. Tang is represented by l’étrangère gallery.
