Biography

Joseph has been based at Glasgow Sculpture Studios since completing post-graduate training at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. The roots of Joseph’s sculptural practice stem from his fascination with the potential that natural or everyday objects have to become something else. The sculptures are evolved forms, holding a memory of their source whilst revealing a sense of the metamorphic process, and have their own rhythm and identity.

These abstracted and semi-abstracted volumetric sculptures are created with metals like steel and copper, sometimes incorporating lighting. Joseph is experienced in working with various professional and community partnerships, and is able to make a sympathetic sculptural statement for any environment. Works range from large, outdoor site-specific pieces to smaller sculpture suitable for domestic, gallery or corporate spaces. Joseph is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner award and his work has been purchased for a public collection through the National Fund for Acquisitions. In 2013 Joe was awarded an Individual Support Grant from the Gottlieb Foundation, New York.
