My influences have been many but an interest in Man's connection to the natural world has always been central to my work. Believing in some sort of visual;
lingua franca and I have been fascinated by art outside the Western tradition, particularly African art and the art of prehistory. I see my sculptures as intercessors between our contemporary intellectual selves and a more ancient, unconscious self that connects with our primitive, fundamental nature. In my recent work I have continued to develop the process of drawing on the surface of three-dimensional forms,at first with incised lines and then with raised three dimensional glyphs. This allows me to experiment with the vivid colour combinations for my bronzes that I find so arresting. My sculptures continue to be pared down to some sort of essential abstraction but at the same time I am fascinated by how the contrasting surface lines and glyphs can have the ability to imply both a narrative and form.
