Biography
Working from his studio in Yorkshire on sculpture ranging from 8 cm to 8 metres Jim Bond exhibits nationally and internationally at venues such as The Morris Museum, USA, LUX Helsinki, Kinetic Biennial, Florida and most recently in 2024 at Melbourne Science Gallery as part of ‘Not Natural’ an exhibition exploring the friction between natural and artificial systems.
He specialises in dynamic kinetic structures and forms which combine electronics and programmable motors with a deep understanding of materiality. His fascination with mechanisms and human anatomy led him to an exploration of anthropomorphic machines as creators of their own narratives. With a practice focused on interaction and perception he is continually experimenting with new materials and processes to explore the way we see and comprehend three dimensional forms in space. Movement becomes an extra material which allows a sculpture or installation to exist within a timeframe and become both an object and a performance, creating a dynamic visual and sometimes physical interaction with the audience.
As a result of winning the 2024 Blunden Prize Jim is currently working on ‘Helix’ a large scale commission based on an extrapolated helical structure for a site in Coventry. He is also creating work for an upcoming exhibition at ‘The Heath Robinson Museum’ in London.
