Biography
Gordon Munro studied at Edinburgh College of art between 1981-86. Over the last 10 years Gordon Munro has investigated the creative possibilities of iron. Early works were inspired by Friedrich Froebel’s gifts and resulted in the creation of a set of 32 iron blocks that collaborators were invited to rearrange to create their own individual “portraits”.
This collaborative approach continues as Munro works with Ewan Robertson in making Cloud Dialogue. This work is a series of cast iron objects existing as nodes in an interchangeable physically interconnected molecular-type ‘cloud’.
Gordon Munro was a co-founder of Edinburgh Sculpture Worksop (ESW) and is currently Assistant Director of the organisation. In this role he was instrumental in the planning of ESW’s new sculpture centre and his work involves supporting and creating professional development opportunities for graduates, early career and established artists.
Over the last ten years he has exhibited nationally and internationally including exhibitions in London and Germany and is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and Royal British Society of Sculptors.
