Biography

She has found that by getting into a tactile conversation with a material she can explore how her dimensions, capabilities and senses can generate form. Currently working on a spinning back strap loom, she also enjoys processes like wet moulding leather, steam bending wood and exploring the possibilities of papier-mache. In 2023, a collaborative residency at Cable Depot in Woolwich was an opportunity to experiment with more ethereal mediums such as live-streamed sound, photographic projection, and refracted shadows. Their qualities have the potential to give form to her experience of her immediate surroundings in Cairo. The slow process of learning Egyptian Arabic often seems like the animated shadow of what’s happening in the studio. They both move forward through continual hopeful uncertainty.

Last year the Royal Society of Sculptors awarded her their annual residency at Thread Cultural Centre in Senegal.
