Biography

Born in 1959 David works primarily in clay before casting in bronze, silver or glass.

David has exhibited around the world as well as working on both public and private commissions. Some notable public commissions include Sir Kyffin Williams, Lawrence of Arabia, Ray Gravell and two over life-size salmon for the Eden Rivers Trust.

On 6th June 2019 David’s biggest project to date, the D-Day Sculpture, was unveiled in Normandy above Gold beach by the President of France and the Prime Minister. The piece of work was physically and emotionally challenging, both in scale and because of its importance. It was imperative that the sculpture encapsulated the true essence of comradeship, leadership, energy and endeavour and did justice to the 22,442 British soldiers who died during the Normandy Campaign.

The unveiling was followed by an exhibition in June 2019 at the Portland Gallery of the D-Day Soldier maquettes, which were also exhibited at Masterpiece.

The experience of Normandy has reaffirmed to David the importance of the relationship between his work and the viewer. Going forward David intends to continue to use movement, energy and poise to achieve dynamic and thoughtful works and compositions. He has put this into practice during lockdown whilst sculpting a twice lifesize sculpture for a private commission.

David now lives and works in Oxfordshire.
