Biography
Textiles serve as the foundation of my practice, acting as both the physical medium and the conceptual framework through which I process ideas. My working methods include imprinting, stitching, erasing, reworking, and folding. Textile media might be integrated with media such as porcelain. I view cloth as a physical and psychological archive, tapping into the profound relationship between textiles and memory to examine both personal and collective histories. These pieces explore states of flux in their theme, and drawon oppositional forces—tension and release, continuity and change, presence and absence, obsolescence and renewal. Following a 2025 residency on a post-industrial site, my practice has increasingly focused on industrial legacies.
My work has been exhibited across the UK and internationally, including the USA, Japan, Uruguay, the Netherlands, China, and Australia. I have received an Award of Excellence at the 8th International Fiber Art Biennale in Beijing, and my work has been featured at the VII World Textile Art Biennial in Montevideo (2017) and the Rijswijk Biennial (2015). In 2021, I presented a solo exhibition at the Crafts Study Centre in Farnham. My work is represented in permanent collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Whitworth, Bankfield Museum, and the UK Crafts Council. I have taught extensively in higher and adult education as part of my career and now focus entirely on my studio practice based in East Sussex.
