Biography
Brigit’s work evolves from close and continuous interaction between the development of material, technique, skill and conceptual understanding. Her practice involves working alongside and creating a platform for the work of under-represented members of society. In response her studio work explores lines that separate what we perceive as being internal or external to us. It examines ideas of hospitality, societal, institutional and technical structures and moments of unsettlement, a sensed disruption arising at moments of encounter with an-other, how this might be embraced, how space can be formed, altered and mutated, and the traces left as these pass through. She holds an MA in Ceramics and Glass and PhD in Critical and Historical Studies from the Royal College of Art. Initially trained as a linguist and translator, her PhD thesis explores the development of theories and practices of translation intrinsic to artistic practice.
