Biography

Anya Mokhova is a contemporary artist based in London with an MA degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. For the past 13 years Anya has been successfully merging her career as an artist and as a sculpture tutor in contemporary art. Anya has been taking part in shows, art fairs, residencies, and summer schools, such as the Royal College of Art in London. Her appearances included the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre in Moscow, the Tbilisi Art Fair with Ria Keburia Foundation in Tbilisi, the Shoreditch Arts Club, the Crypt Gallery, the Dyson Gallery in London, and others. With a passion for both the history of arts and media experimentation, Anya creates installations and sculptural objects from natural bases (tallow, bee’s wax, soap), classical (gold leaf, brass, and bronze), and contemporary (acrylic stone, silicone, and resin). She applies contemporary computer technologies to create incrustations and engravings, linking through this process rigid and soft, natural and artificial. In her projects, she aims to create a visual language, which, in its frequent reference to classical arts, is intriguing and suggestive of both sensual and abstract interaction through touch, taste, smell, as well as memories, associations and imagination.
