Biography
Anna Pesonen is a Finnish-Karelian artist based in London working with stone, sound, and architectural-scale installation. Her practice develops what she terms counterspaces: sculptural environments that operate as analog resistance to technocratic acceleration.
Grounded in Post-Futurism —a methodology she has uniquely developed drawing on the philosophy of Bifo Berardi— Pesonen's installations operate through subscendence rather than transcendence: a deliberate sinking into geological, cultural, and temporal depth. She carves stone by hand, activates endangered vocal traditions in architectural space, and builds acoustic sculptures that transform military and surveillance infrastructure into instruments of cultural preservation, re-oriented from control toward care and collective listening.
Her practice asks: how might reconnection emerge not through transcendence or escape, but through immanence and subscendence — by sinking deeper into the material conditions of the present?
Pesonen is completing an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and has been selected to represent Finland at the Malta Biennale 2026.
She has held residencies at the Alvar Aalto Residency and has an upcoming residency at Casa Wabi.
Her work has been featured in Artnet and Architectural Digest among others.
