Biography

Originally from Bala, in North Wales, Angharad Pearce Jones studied 3D Design and Craft BA (Hons) at Brighton University in 1991, followed by an MA in Fine Art at Cardiff Art School in 1999. She now lives and works in Carmarthenshire, supporting her practice by working as a commercial blacksmith and steel fabricator for the construction industry and for tv and film.

In her early career, she created a clear distinction between her artwork and commercial work but over the years, they have become inter-dependable. She realises the sculptural potential in everything made of steel, from agricultural fences, sports stadium turnstiles, prams and scaffold poles, to the dust that congeals on her disc cutter. She has one foot in the mundane everyday life of being a mother of 3, indulging in too much reality tv….another in heavy industry and high art, resulting in a fascinating combination that has led to some thought-provoking works.

She has exhibited regularly, both in the UK and Internationally and was principle designer for ‘Wales at The Smithsonian Festival’ in Washington DC, 2009. She has works of public art all over Wales, including the Senedd, Welsh Parliament building in Cardiff Bay. In 2018 , she worked as assistant to Egyptian artist Anna Boghiguian, for her Artes Mundi Prize installation and again at Tate St Ives in 2019. Angharad’s largest solo show to date, IMPACTArdrawiad at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, seamlessly combines her skills as a  maker, sculptor and installation artist and poses some important questions about current divisions in society.
