Artistate is a gateway to professional advice tailored specifically for artists and their estates. It was founded by art lovers and enthusiasts, professionals specialising in the visual arts, who realised that artists had nowhere to go for advice about legacy planning, and those who inherited artist estates were usually left to figure things out for themselves.

Artistate are uniquely placed to provide an array of services and to integrate them all under one roof. The Artists’ Collecting Society (ACS), founded by Harriet Bridgeman (founder of Bridgeman Images), is the only not-for-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to the collection of the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR) and copyright on behalf of artists and artists’ estates in the UK, EEA and Australia.

ACS represent nearly 2,000 artists and artists' estates including Frank Auerbach, Flora Yukhnovich, Anthony Caro, Barbara Hepworth, Lucie Rie, Lynn Chadwick, Emily Young and Lucian Freud. 

As ACS operates solely for the benefit of our member artists, it was formed as a Community Interest Company. This means that all profit is legally locked into the company and must be used to benefit the artistic community. ACS currently sponsors bursaries, prizes, and residencies to support artists in the UK and abroad.

Hallett Independent is a specialist firm of art, museum and private client insurance brokers.
