When I first crossed the threshold of Dora House to attend an exhibition opening, it was buzzing with people and full of sculpture and as I wandered through the galleries I felt weirdly at home. Unpicking that notion which came so quickly I realised I was so comfortable simply because I was amongst my own kind. I have loved rooms full of sculptors ever since. And thank Cecil Thomas OBE FRBS frequently for establishing a Home for Sculptors and knowing that it was a brilliant idea of his along with naming the building he bought in post war London after his wife Dora.

Ahead of the Year of the Home in 2026 when we celebrate the Society's 50 years at Dora House, we asked members to share with us their personal memories of Dora House. We will be sharing them throughout 2026 as part of a programme of this milestone, marked also by the delivery of our project Creating a Home for Sculptors. If you have a memory you would like to share, you can still do so via this link.
