I was selected for the then RBS Annual Bursary Award exhibition back in 2004 (pictured here). This was soon after graduation and was my first group show in a 'real' gallery in London.
It would be a few years before I figured out a method for how to transport my suspended works, and I remember sitting on the floor of the rear gallery with my dandelion seeds and my tin of spray mount, tying weights onto nylon threads and wondering if I would manage to get the work finished before the show opened.
My working methods have changed beyond recognition in the 20+ years since then, (though there are last-minute sprints from time to time!). I did get it finished, and it won the Roy Noakes Award, which at such an early stage in my practice, felt absolutely monumental!

Ahead of the Year of the Home in 2026 when we celebrate the Society's 50 years at Dora House, we asked members to share with us their personal memories of Dora House. We will be sharing them throughout 2026 as part of a programme of this milestone, marked also by the delivery of our project Creating a Home for Sculptors. If you have a memory you would like to share, you can still do so via this link.
