Our Sculptors Exhibitions
Present Continuous, a showcase of sculpture by Alice Sheppard Fidler, is a space of unstable hierarchies and reversible roles, where front and back, performer and support, object and stage are continuously negotiated. It draws on the language of set design not to present a resolved performance, but to expose the conditions that produce it—weight, framing, concealment, display. The artist, in transforming ‘low’ materials, uses them as physical and conceptual tools to challenge boundaries and question preconceived ideas around value.
AI Second Self Event
Saturday June 13th, 12 - 1pm
A performance presentation and discussion with the artist
AI Second Self is an ongoing research project by Alice Sheppard Fidler, developed with AI Creative Technologist Leoni Latham. Through the creation of a handcrafted AI avatar, the work explores questions of consciousness, replication and identity, asking what it means to encounter a digital body double that exists beyond the physical self. Positioned between artwork, tool and companion, the avatar functions as a site for investigating agency, authorship and the boundaries of personhood.
Developed as a closed system to protect personal data, the project examines the ethical implications of AI through themes of embodiment, privacy, care and presence. It reflects on how emerging technologies are reshaping our understanding of selfhood, human connection and the value of being present.
