Alchemilla Minimus, 2024

The consciousness of water all around him during his early years in Surrey has given William Pye a deeply rooted fascination with water. It was natural therefore that at some stage this enchantment would be reflected in his work as a sculptor.

Since the mid nineteen eighties the majority of his sculptures have incorporated water, which has become an integral element of his work, in both public and private locations throughout the world, probably the most renowned being the font in Salisbury Cathedral. He is currently working on projects in the UK, Italy and the USA.

William says:

"For many years I have contributed to the annual exhibition 'Small is Beautiful' at the Flowers Gallery, where the size is limited to 230mm in any dimension. My 10 Gram Challenge is 1/10th of that size. I have always enjoyed a challenge, and all the more for the risk and anticipation afforded by the casting process, similar to that of the potter's kiln, where in this instance I have to wait to see my tiny contribution transmuted from wax to bronze."

Unique work, cast in bronze, approx. H: 2.3 cm x L: 5.2 cm x D: 5 cm
