Yorkshire Sculptors Group
The Yorkshire Sculptors Group (YSG) was established in 1985. Over the past forty years, its membership has grown and evolved, continuing to unite sculptors across the Yorkshire region through mutual support and the promotion of their work via exhibitions and discussion. There are currently twenty-three members, elected on the quality of their work and their long-term commitment to making sculpture in all its forms.
The group explores a wide range of sculptural practices that engage with contemporary ideas and critical thinking. YSG exhibits regularly in a variety of indoor and outdoor venues throughout Yorkshire, across the UK, and internationally.
This exhibition aims to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the YSG featuring a thought-provoking range of approaches to making sculpture and the use of materials, processes and technologies.
Subject matter addresses such things as abstraction, figuration, bio morphism and materiality through to the complexities of the human experience, ecological thinking or the potency in human and non-human relationships.
The distinctive qualities of the large ‘industrial like’ exhibition space at Level Zero in Barnsley Civic is highly appealing to the Yorkshire Sculptors Group as it encourages a variety of sculptural responses and interpretations. This exhibition aims to celebrate both the differences and commonalities among each artist’s approach to making sculpture, while engaging the audience with contemporary themes and ideas.
