Our Sculptors Exhibitions
Somers Gallery is pleased to present Latent Relics – a duo exhibition of new works by artists Dylan Doe and Jack Evans, curated by Jessica Wan. Opening on 8 May and on view until 7 June, the exhibition will transform the gallery into a speculative domestic space: a home of relics from an imagined future inviting audiences to consider our relationship with technology and value systems – how it shapes our experience, becomes an unconscious extension of ourselves, and mediates our understanding of the world.
Elevating mundane objects and moments to monumental status, Doe's paintings flicker between diorama and still-life, anchoring surrealist post-human hybrid forms into raw, painterly space whilst Evans’ sculptures reimagine digital ephemera and unconscious iPhone images into tactile objects that feel inherently unearthed. At the heart of the show sits Evans’ site-specific installation akin to a kitchen island unit wrapped in a Yosemite landscape – coming to life as part counter, part terrain and part altar.
Through ‘Latent Relics’ the domestic space becomes psychological landscape: a repository of memories, habits, and unconscious interactions, prompting viewers to consider how future generations might read the relics of our time – both the objects and the traces of life they hold.
