Description

We are pleased to announce the next ‘Reintroducing our Pioneering Women’ talk on Tuesday 16 February 2021 by Professor Fran Lloyd.

Professor Lloyd’s talk will focus on Dora Gordine FRBS (1895-1991). Gordine became an Associate member of the Society in 1938 and was made a Fellow in 1949. She was born in Latvia but lived in Estonia, Paris and London, settling with her second husband Richard Hare in Kingston at her home and studio Dorich House, which she designed herself. Between the wars Gordine became well-known for her non-European ‘exotic’ portrait heads such as Javanese Head (1930-31) and figurative pieces such as Walking Male Torso (1927-28).

Professor Lloyd is Professor of Art History at Kingston University and has published widely on contemporary and modern visual culture.
