Our Sculptors Exhibitions
“Soar through the air and plunge under the sea at The Coro this summer in a free, family-friendly exhibition exploring the fascinating worlds of animal and human migration, where two members of the RSS have been commissioned.”
The centrepiece is Heinrich and Palmer’s beautiful and awe-inspiring video installation, Aerial, which takes 3D laser scans of fourteen extraordinary migratory birds and transforms them into dancing bodies of light in a breath-taking virtual diorama, set to a specially composed soundtrack. Complemented by a series of smaller light installations, audio-visual exhibits, sculptures, and interactive art. Two members of the Royal Society of Sculptors have been commissioned to exhibit their installations. The PV will take place on Friday 5th of August 18 – 20hrs.
Sally de Courcy will showcase Migrant Crossings, an installation that uses contextually linked cast metaphorical objects to reveal a political statement about the loss of life as refugees continue to attempt to cross the English Channel in small boats - one of the most dangerous shipping channels in the world. The cast objects are arranged as an ironic mandala, representing the circle of life. The circle reflects the movement of wheels and journeys made, cogs functioning because of actions by others. The objects are rendered to look like bone and white is the colour of mourning in many cultures.
Migrant Crossing is accompanied by Tere Chad’s tents installation Portable Shelters. This textile pieces arise or grow representing migrations as creative destructions: when a group of newcomers arrives, affect the local environment to create a new reality. The installation is being showcased at Incredible Journeys invites us to reflect in the different ways that migratory birds create their nests or impact over the nests of local birds. For example, Cuckoo birds never build their own nests, it lays its eggs in nests from other birds. Tents can be portable but also left behind for newcomers to be used.
Incredible Journeys promises to be a perfect trip out for adults and children alike, whether you have ten minutes or 2 hours to spare.
