Biography
My work is figurative but it is meant to be metaphorical, not simply representational. I aim to stimulate emotions, feelings and the imagination; to achieving a sense of well-being, happiness and joy. In order to achieve a spiritual balance in my life and work, I look for alternatives to the materialism and cynicism that often seem prevalent in society. I focus on the metaphysical rather than the evidence of the physical world.
My sculptures are cast bronze. They often have an animal element (often horses) that represents the “human condition” of uncertainty and precariousness. This is balanced on some unstable platform including spheres and wheels among other bases. But on top there is a human figure that is secure and celebratory, representing a spiritual confidence and the act of stepping into the unknown and doing so willingly. The theme is “overcoming life’s challenges by maintaining and emphasizing a positive, optimistic frame of mind.”
