Biography
I use my own handmade paper, working from the raw fibre using traditional European equipment and techniques. The process of papermaking is vitally important to my work as the complex structure of the fibres enables me to create sculptural pieces without the use of glue, stitching or armatures.
I can have no expectations of my work, as the paper is capricious. It dictates the finished piece. The paper does not co-operate, it makes itself heard within the work. It will not be controlled. I give my paper life it gives me the life it wants. It does not see my 'vision' I am a master who cannot control its subject. We {me and the paper} have to agree to disagree. Like lovers we try to understand each others likes and dislikes and like lovers we are different, never quite agreeing but always willing to learn to work together to create.
By making my own paper I am able to produce an acid free paper and without the use of glue, stitching or armatures the work is free from contaminants which could affect longevity.
I exhibit nationally and internationally, and my works are in private and public collections in the UK and USA.
