Biography
My current practice is focused mainly on sculpture and installation but also takes in painting, printmaking and film, fundamental to all of which are the processes of collage and assemblage. Materially this strategy manifests itself in my sculpture through the appropriation of discarded objects and industrial materials alongside processes of ceramics, cast metal, woodworking, metal working and general casting. Whether in two or three dimensions i'm interested by what happens when you break down and reassemble our environment and how this can lead to the renegotiation of the systems and material hierarchies that control our lives. My recent work has been particularly concerned with the fevered relationship between the fiction consumed by the mind and the corporeal landscape. I’m interested in how it creates a breeding ground for semi-fictional objects, places and protagonists. Through the build up of a stratum of debris, off cuts and left over fragments my work attempts to set the stage for a retelling where reality and story merge. This sequence of accretion builds a new world, where discarded objects teem with life, a place in the margins, where things move in another direction, born out of humanities questionable activities on earth.
