Biography

Richard Bray sculpts mainly in wood. The visual perception of his work is often at first illusionary, since the rhythms and systems that he uses are intended to stimulate questions as to the volume, position, perspective and structure of the materials engaged. It might be seen as a dialogue between the natural and introduced forms.

Bray has often worked to specific commissions and sites and the ‘fit’ of the work in terms of the context and audience is an important aspect of his public and private work. The range of the work is wide, with external pieces up to 10 metres wide and internal work sometimes a delicate and subtle presence.
