Biography
Prof Brian Falconbridge PPRBS (b 1950) a Past President of the RBS (2004 - 09), is an artist and academic whose work includes sculptures in bronze and wood which are constructivist in approach and often small in scale but which imply monumentality. His influences include European Metaphysical Still Life painting, C17th Spanish painting, East-Asian thought, visual and literary culture, especially those of Japanese haiku and classical Chinese poetry.
Trained at Goldsmiths (1970-73) and the Slade (1973-75), he taught with Michael Kenny RA at both and with Reg Butler at the Slade before becoming a full - time academic at Goldsmith’ including as Head of Visual Arts at Goldsmiths’ (1997-2003). He subsequently became Dean of The Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Media & Design at London Metropolitan University before retiring from the position in 2011 to resume full - time studio practice.
